Holistic Services

Loveknot.jpg
The Holistic Service offered by Never-Ending Paths focuses on re-membering all parts of one's self, re-connecting these reclaimed parts with a unifying flow of healthful life force, and living each day confirming the insights and wisdom gained within the healing process. In response to client needs, various therapies are integrated, rather than separated as mutually exclusive modalities. This integration (1) addresses spirit-mind-body wholeness, (2) strengthens the interconnectedness within one's self and among all life (human, earth, animal, and spirit), (3) combines traditional (indigenous) therapies with allopathic treatments as appropriate, and (4) provides education in practical methods that incorporate meaningfulness into daily living with grace and harmony.

Each session encompasses perspectives and techniques which support living in balance, being in peace, and employing wisdom – within personal space and expanded community. The therapeutic environment is one in which the client may safely open in order to explore and consider the relevant blend of beliefs, points of view, and effective tools for personal healing.

A vital phase of healing, often forgotten, is the integration into one's daily life of key insights gleaned from the dis-ease experience. Therefore, education – in both individual and group format is essential in supporting practices for improving mindfulness, self-growth, and gratitude. Many clients choose to co-create and conduct personally meaningful rituals, ceremonies, or celebrations (alone or with invited witnesses/participants) to acknowledge important milestones in their lives.

An Understanding of Holistic Medicine

Holistic Approaches

Since the word holistic or holism is defined with diverse, and even contradictory, meanings, it is essential to characterize the context within which Never-Ending Paths serves. Holism (and its various forms) comes from the same root as whole, health, healing, holy, and hologram. Therefore, the unifying principles for understanding holistic philosophy and practice are as follows:
  • Everything is complete in and of itself and is, at the same time, part of a greater whole
  • Everything and everyone is made of the same life force or universal essence/energy
  • Everything is interrelated, co-operative, alive, and moving in dynamic, life-enhancing balance
Medicine, derived from the same root as meditation, traditionally means power. Hence, medicine – commonly thought of as prescriptions offered in treatment – is an external catalyst for activating healing power within. Personal medicine is the combination of "medicines" (external agents and internal meditative practices) a person chooses, in order to activate and strengthen personal power.

Holistic medicine
, then, is that variety of methods and therapies which activates healing, balance, and wholeness of spirit, mind, and body. In the traditional (indigenous) view the client balances the natural elements within him/her-self and harmonizes the outer environment of family, community, and nature (animals, plants, and Earth). The client entrains to the spiritual essence, which holds the codes of wisdom,
or knowing, to actualize health and wholeness. All aspects are brought into co-operative relationship.

The
holistic medicine model focuses on healing the well-being, health, and connectedness, rather than the allopathic focus on curing disease and separateness (reductionism). Holistic medicine recognizes that the power of healing is inherent within each of us. It employs a combination of methods (chosen by the client) that catalyze and balance the inner state of being with the outer physical expression. Allopathic medicine is a valued component within holistic medicine.

The services provided in holistic medicine are typically offered as therapies: i.e., the power or medicine which assists another on the path of healing. Each
holistic team member acts in co-operative interaction with the client; each member is a therapist – one who assists another in the healing process. (This model differs from the allopathic model, which provides treatment (something outside the individual having the power/choice/control to act upon the patient); the relationship has an hierarchical, controlling structure).
Never-Ending Paths serves as a member of the indivudual's holistic healing team, which also includes her/his personal support community.
