Meditation is a method of quieting
the mind to center in a state of peace which is at the core of one's being. To enter a meditative state, one chooses a
single point of attention upon which to focus. The most common focal point is one's breath. Other practices include –
but are not limited to – focusing on a single image (such as a candle flame or a mandala), repeating a mantra or tone,
or performing a repetitive activity which frees the mind (such as walking, washing dishes, dusting, etc.). Meditation actually leads us to enter different levels of awareness. We typically move from the normal beta state of brain
wave frequency (waking state of alertness, arousal, and sometimes anxiety) to the alpha state of relaxation, calmness, creativity,
and visualization. Meditation therapies begin when the alpha state is experienced. With practice one can
shift into the deeper theta state, associated with imagery, insight, intuition, memory, and inspiration. The deepest frequency
– the delta state, associated with deep sleep, opens us to experience non-attached awareness and healing. Whatever levels
of meditation one enters, the spirit, mind, and body benefit in terms of health, restoration, and well-being.
Therapists may offer guided experiences, during which a person may practice a variety of techniques in order to discover
which ones are personally effective and supportive in healing. The various meditative techniques provide
paths into one's inner self, allowing one to reclaim his or her own power and healing. To schedule a personal appointment or to learn more about Meditation, please contact Nancy.
