Guided imagery is a
healing discipline which is powerful and effective by itself, or is easily integrated with other techniques. Imagery enhances
one's healing response to many health-related conditions, imbalances, or dis-eases. One may engage in personal imagery
or be guided by a therapist (guided imagery). An image is an internalized symbol, representation, or interpretation of an experience. To be
most effective, imagery will go beyond a single sense (such as sight) to include the multi-sensory experience; this allows
one to shift into an altered/heightened state of awareness. Imagining oneself in a pine forest goes beyond seeing the trees
to include the sights, sounds, smells, tastes, and touch of this particular environment. This expansion of awareness and focus
makes one more capable of accelerated healing and growth. Imagery is the language of both the body and the subconscious mind. It contains the flow of thoughts
and sensations that affect one's physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual well being. The mind does not differentiate
between full sensory images and what we call "reality". Therefore, it stimulates changes in bodily functions usually
considered inaccessible to conscious influence. Through guided imagery, the therapist creates a space in which a person may relax and focus attention
within. Images consistent with one's beliefs are experienced as safe and sacred. The resulting peacefulness reveals
fertile ground upon which to cultivate the healing of imbalances and dis-eases. To
